OUR

MISSION

HISTORY

The Billiards industry goes back in time during the 15th century in Northern Europe that began as a lawn game similar to croquet. The game eventually got moved inside and played on a table with green cloth to resemble grass. Instead of hitting a pool ball with a pool cue, you would shove them with a wooden stick known as 'maces'. Billiard equipment improved rapidly in England after 1800, largely because of the Industrial Revolution. Chalk was used to increase friction between the ball and the cue stick even before cues had tips. In the 1920's, the game of pool was an environment where men would gather to bet, play, smoke, and fight. Nonetheless, women have been enthusiastic players since the game was brought up from the ground. For over 200 hundred years, women of fashion have played the game. In the past, it was very difficult for a woman to develop billiard skills because male players, her family, and friends usually did not support her efforts and it was not easy to find experienced female instructors or coaches. As these situations have changed, and continue to change, we can expect that the Billiards industry will take the game to new heights.

ABOUT US

Kevin Higgins is the founder & creator of Higgins Billiard Supply. His passion for billiards started when the only class he showed up to in high school was shop class (Don't worry, he graduated). His career began when he took a co-op program his senior year and worked part time making furniture. After collecting enough shop tools, he handmade his first custom pool table in 1992. In 1994, he decided to leave his job at UPS and start his own business focusing on building custom pool tables and bars full-time. Today he sells a line of Imperial Tables to meet all budgets. He also buys & sell used pool tables as well as services all brands of pool tables including moving, recovering, and repairing in and around MD, DC, and VA. Aside from his current line of business and putting customers first, he loves spending time with his family, relaxing at his lake house, and taking a cruise on his motorcycle. Here at Higgins Billiard Supply, we value integrity, honesty, trust, fun and most importantly you. Visit our contact page to get to know us more! We look forward to meeting you.
